My life in the beauty industry began after I graduated from beauty college in 2005. I have had a lot of experience working in many different environments; from chain salons to booth rental and now owning my own studio. I've worked in barbershops, men's salons, smaller shops and upscale salons. I've worked with many people and am very grateful for all that I have learned from them. I've realized in the many years of doing hair, that there is so much to be thankful for having such a great career.
I love learning new things in this industry. There are always so many new techniques or products out there. I have been to numerous hair shows in California from L.A. to San Francisco and have also attended The Summit. That has been one of the most eye-opening conventions that I have had the opportunity to attend thus far. I have also been to many local classes and hold several certifications from ones that I have taken; including being the first certified stylist in California for Head Shape Matters.
There is a reason that there are hairstylists; we are literally scientists for your hair. There is so much more that goes into coloring the hair than just squeezing a bottle. I love figuring out different formulas for color while keeping the integrity of the hair. Seeing the look on someones face after you change their hair is priceless! It is one feature, other than weight, that can dramatically change the appearance of a person. We have all seen what a person can look like with just the change of a cut or color.
Outside of doing hair I am a pretty outgoing person. I love joking around and can be a little on the sarcastic side at times. I am usually very active; but have not been doing quite as much lately due to back problems. When I get the chance, I love practicing yoga, playing softball, soccer and spending time out in the sun. I've lived in the Sacramento area all my life and am lucky enough to have met my husband while playing kickball a couple years ago.
I have always loved doing hair. I was the one that did all of my friends' hair for prom while in high school and even for a wedding, but it wasn't what I went to school for. When I had to take a break from college, I reevaluated what I was doing and decided to go to cosmetology school. It took just the first day of school to know that this was what I was meant to do.
I've been doing hair for a few years now and have taken local classes to continue my education. I love growing as a hairstylist. I've taken several Fanola color classes, a Big Sexy Hair styling class, a Lanza balayage class, a Head Shape Matters webinar and recently became certified with Hot Heads Extensions.
The thing that I love most about being in this industry is making people feel great about themselves from the moment they leave my chair. I look forward to a career full of new experiences with growing and developing my skill set in an ever-changing industry and getting to do what I love every single day!
